Priorities
Partner with county and state representatives to increase funding to collaborate on multi-jurisdictional projects. Work with state ,and local planning to direct future roads and infrastructure projects to Jackson’s most critical areas.
Expand the downtown footprint, support local businesses, incentivize and increase mixed- use zoning, utilize space to build multi-floor buildings and promote Jackson as a destination for entrepreneurs.
Bring back neighborhood policing, increase our force from 52-75 officers and establish community relationships that promote trust. We must establish accountability with violent offenders and gang related gun possession. I will initiate the ‘Eyes in the Park’ public camera program to ensure we have safe parks for our families to enjoy.
Promote and prioritize housing for veterans, seniors, working families and individuals with disabilities. As Mayor, rather than demolishing salvageable homes, I will identify existing homes that meet the rehabilitation guidelines and support individuals or entities that are willing to restore them to productive use.
Homelessness is a human crisis. Residents deserve a safe and secure place for their personal belongings while getting the help and support they need. As Mayor I will task and enforce the agencies that are resourced to evaluate and meet the needs of our unhoused residents. We must address the root causes that require both compassion and practical solutions. We must coordinate with existing agencies (such as Lifeways, Interfaith Shelter, Family Services and Children’s Aid, Faith-based Communities, Home of New Vision, Health Professionals, etc) to mobilize their resources to address underlying issues ( substance use disorders, mental health, unemployment, financial instability, domestic violence, etc.) When these individuals are ready to reenter society I as Mayor must ensure they have access to affordable housing and a quality of life that makes them a productive member of Jackson.
